EVENTSCNN Report on Battle for Blair MountainCNN In America's documentary, "The Battle for Blair Mountain," goes behind both sides of the fight over mountaintop removal for coal. Is it creating jobs or poisoning communities? See the battle unfold at 8 p.m. ET/PT Aug. 14.
Check out the screening for THE LAST MOUNTAIN.
Harris Theater - Friday July 22-28 - 7 pm In the heart of Appalachia, a battle is being fought over a mountain. Fed up but refusing to give in, the residents of the Coal River valley in West Virginia endure earsplitting explosions, raining boulders, toxic sludge and poisoned wells. Their tormentor is the union-busting, environmental-law-flouting Massey Energy Company and its use of the controversial mining strategy called mountaintop removal. Award-winning documentary filmmaker Bill Haney says, "With politicians siding with their corporate donors, it falls to a rag tag army of local activists to stand alone for the welfare of their families, their heritage and for a principled and sound energy future." This is their uplifting story about the power of ordinary citizens. (Bill Haney; USA; 2011; 94 min) March on Blair MountainLots of different opportunities to make a difference. June 4-11, 2011.
